My First Blog Post! (introduction)
Hello everyone! I am excited for this class and look forward to learning more about technology and how I can incorporate it into my lesson plans and future classroom experiences. While I do have a basis in understanding of some educational technologies (including Smartboards & Smart Tables, Schoology, and TeacherTube, to name a few) I definitely hope to increase my knowledge even further with the help of you all, Dr. Chen and my classmates. My personal learning goals for this semester are still unclear to me; while I do know that I want to learn to be a 21st century teacher who uses technology to enhance learning and incapsulate students' attention, I do not yet know what resources are available to help me or in what capacity I will learn to become this sort of teacher. I am entering this course with an open mind, and hopefully that will help me to learn much that I can use to shape my personal learning goals and personal teaching philosophy. Looking forward to all this course has in store!

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that I do have more to learn about technology and that I do not know everything there is out there for me to learn or be able to use. I did not know what Schoology was until I looked at our blog. Thanks for the new technology.
I completely agree we all need to go into this course with an open mind. There is so much technology that we need to focus in on the ones we feel comfortable with as teachers; however, in a course like this we are given the freedom to go out of our comfort zone and really experiment with all the resources. It seems like you know a lot about some resources out there and I look forward to learning from you
ReplyDeleteWow it is interesting that you are already familar with some programs. I do agree with you, we need to approach this course with an open mind and not with preconceived notions of what is good or bad about technology.
ReplyDeleteJason F,
ReplyDeleteDo you teach now? it looks like you have a great start on programs to use in the class room and different types as well. You should be teaching the course it looks like. What subject is your concentration and do you find that when you do teach, if you aren’t now, technology would better assist the children or not? My subject is English and I think technology can be used a lot in my subject but curious if it is the same for all subject areas.
Haha, Jason. Thank you; you must be familiar with the saying, "Compliments will get you everywhere." I am not quite as well versed in technology as you may believe, although I do have somewhat of a foundation, as I imagine you do too! It may take time to bring what you already know to light, but I am sure a strong basis is already there for you as well.
ReplyDeleteI am currently a Teacher's Assistant in a high school math classroom in a school that caters to students with special needs (predominantly physical handicaps). My undergrad degree is in English and after I become certified, I hope to lead a classroom of my own in this subject. In my current job, technology is a vital resource. Many of my students are nonverbal and rely on Dynavoxes and iPads to aid in their communication. Additionally, since my students lack fine motor skills, assignments, quizzes, and tests are frequently modified so that they can be taken online. The SmartBoard is used everyday in my classroom. The images on the board can be broadcasted to the laptops at each students desk so that students with visual impairments can see the material more easily. As far as content, we allow students time to toy with mathematical concepts are their own and many websites are given to students so that these skills can be practiced at home or in therapy sessions (Speech, PT, etc.). I am very blessed to have the opportunity to work with these students and often find that I am perhaps learning more from them than I am teaching them. The students are so adept in technology, and blow me out of the water on a daily basis with what they know and can do. Technology has not just enhanced the curriculum for my students, it has enabled it.
Wow, It seems you know so many kinds of educational technologies.I feel very embarrassed that I've never heard of those technologies during the past 22 years when I was in China. Thanks to tell me what you know, I think I have to google them and try to understand what they are and how they can be used.
ReplyDeleteI used SmartBoards during student teaching and I enjoyed it as much as the students. I look forward to hopefully learning more about them this semester as they are a great tool for engaging a class.
ReplyDeleteIntegrating technology into the classroom seems to be an intimidating task. While having worked only a small amount with SmartBoards has allowed me a preview, I feel as if I am only scratching the surface. I think that the technology courses that we are enrolled in at STJ gives us a great advantage and opportunity to engage our students in the learning process.
